Natural Sciences Minor Hometown: Austin, TX Career Goal: Jake's aspires to educate and inspire people worldwide to be their healthiest and most-productive selves, more specifically in the field of reproductive and sexual health. He plans on doing this through first educating himself, with plans to get his MPH and MD to become an OB/GYN or plastic surgeon. Then, Jake wants to open his own practice while also playing a part in the global conversation surrounding health policy. In his lifetime, Jake wants to see an overall increase in the empowerment of women globally, as well as the end of HIV/AIDS. Other Activities Involved In: DOZ Leadership Fraternity: VP of Social Programing, Research at the EMERGE lab (Expanding Male Engagement in Reproductive and Gender Equity), Globemed active member If Jake could solve any health issue with a magic wand, what would it be and why? While an extremely large & multifaceted issue, Jake would solve gender inequality. Many health related problems are tied to this issue; with the end of these health complications and overall inequity, women will be able to finally have a presence on the global stage in every aspect. What advice would Jake give to a prospective student? Study what you love! It is okay to not know right away, but constantly be aware of what you are doing and what you enjoy about that. Before you know it, you will be in the "real world" searching for a job. Don't you want it to be something you are passionate about and excited to do every day? |
