KSA Executive Board: Anti-Racism/Call to Action
Junior Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Major Natural Sciences Minor Hometown: Atlanta, GA Career Goal: Zacari aspires to get her MPH and then go to medical school because she aims to provide health services to underserved communities. She is excited for a future career addressing racial disparities in healthcare, and the actions that physicians can take to combat them within oppressive institutions. Other Activities Involved In: E-board member for CHIP @ USC (Community Health Involvement Project), Program Director for MAPS (Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students), Tutor for McMorrow's Neighborhood Academic Initiative (NAI), Student Research Assistant at HEAL (Health, Emotion & Addiction Laboratory) If Zacari could solve any health issue with a magic wand what would it be and why? Zacari would choose hunger, because the issue that underlies it is greed, not that there is an insufficient amount of food. In her opinion, there is no legitimate reason for these disparities between countries other than a society that values profit over human life. What advice would Zacari give to a prospective student? Learn how to fail. If you are not able to forgive yourself for failing, whether it's a test, project, etc., it will be much harder to motivate yourself for next time. This is not saying you should intentionally fail something, but don't beat yourself up if a grade doesn't live up to your expectations. Your mental health is more important! |
